ROTC Scholarship Criteria

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA SENT TO THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA ROTC DETACHMENTS COMMANDERS

The Tucson Chapter of the Military Officer Association of America (MOAA) would like to provide some support to three needy cadets in their freshmen or sophomore year who are experiencing financial issues paying for college expenses. We have noticed alarming college statistics which show a large dropout rate occurring with students in the freshmen/sophomore years, largely due to financial needs. Our sense is that if we can financially assist a few cadets in this early college phase, it may help retain some quality individuals who finish the ROTC programs and go on to honorably serve in the Armed Forces of the United States. Our current desire is to provide three (3) individual financial needs scholarships, one to each separate Service ROTC program at the University of Arizona. These financial needs scholarships will each be awarded on an annual basis to be determined by the MOAA Tucson Chapter Board, in coordination with the University of Arizona ROTC Commanders, in the initial amount of $700 with the objective to grow these annual scholarships to $1000 each. The determination of the recipient within a particular Service ROTC program will be at the ROTC Commander’s discretion while using the following criteria requested by the MOAA Tucson Chapter Board:

 1. The recipient of this award should have a collegiate financial need, as determined by the Commander
 2. The recipient should be either a freshman or sophomore at the University of Arizona enrolled in an ROTC program
 3. The recipient should be in good standing both academically and with cadet corp participation
 4. The recipient should have made positive contributions within the corp for the betterment of the ROTC program
 5. The recipient should use the monetary award to defray expenses with the Bursar’s Office directly related to attending a University of Arizona academic program
 6. The recipient should be available to attend the Tucson Chapter annual scholarship awards luncheon, as our guest. His/her parent(s) are also invited as our guest(s)
